Endodontic Retreatment: raising the bar
Retreatment cases in endodontically-treated teeth has risen sharply in recent years in dental clinics increasing the interest in endodontic re-intervention by both patients and dental professionals. Scientifically based treatment techniques and a great diversity of new materials and instruments have had a positive impact on our understanding of endodontic retreatment and its efficient delivery.
This presentation will focus on clinical protocols for the management of teeth indicated for gutta-percha retreatment. Key clinical points such as: how to remove gutta-percha, access the apical third of the canal and restablish the working length, repreparation and irrigation techniques focused in disinfection and canal re-obturation will be discussed and confronted with contemporary literature.
All the techniques presented will be described step by step. Prognosis will be illustrated with clinical cases of successful and failed outcomes in order to positively impact the everyday practice of general clinicians and specialists alike, aiming to improve the quality of clinical care offered to our patients.
